The City Planning Institute is a curriculum based program that we offer to elementary, middle and high school students. The program trains students in the city planning and community development process, helps them explore the strengths and weaknesses of their neighborhoods, and guides them in creating real-world redevelopment proposals for their local governments.
The Center for Community Planning designs and tailors a city planning training program for any student population. From elementary students to students entering high school, the staff at CPP are experts at developing neighborhood based city planning training programs designed to introduce kids to the planning process, critically evaluating their communities, and working with government officials to make positive changes in the areas they live. The program incorporates training from certified planners, guest speakers, field trips, and real world application of state of the art technology. Students host a final community forum where they present their findings and plans for their neighborhoods to government officials and local stakeholders. CCP has hosted City Planning Institute programs throughout NJ in Newark, Paterson, Passaic, Trenton, and the Highlands region.
